UniSport Australia and Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation announce three-year partnership
5 June 2018
UniSport Australia (UniSport) today announced a partnership with Australian All Star Cheer Federation (AASCF) for the delivery of cheer and dance competitions at the UniSport Nationals for the next three years.
UniSport Chief Executive Officer Don Knapp is delighted UniSport has partnered with AASCF, the largest provider of cheer and dance competitions in Australia.
“Cheer and dance is a high participation sport in the university sector. Partnering with an organisation of AASCF’s calibre helps UniSport to increase opportunities for student-athletes to pursue their athletic goals.”
“The increasing popularity of the sport, and rapidly improving skill levels of cheer athletes, places Australia in an excellent position for great results at the inaugural FISU World University Cheerleading Championship in Poland this October. With this partnership we are confident of continued growth of the sport in the university sector over the next three years.”
UniSport will work with AASCF in the following areas:
- Delivery of the Nationals cheer and dance competition;
- Education of university coaches with the AASCF coach accreditation program;
- Creation of a long term plan for the development of cheer and dance in the university sector; and
- Assisting and supporting the Australian team to attend the FISU World University Cheerleading Championship.
AASCF Program Director Rosemary James commented on the partnership:
“As the leading provider of support and competition opportunities to university cheer and dance teams, AASCF is proud to partner with UniSport Australia to assist in the management and development of this fast growing and exciting sector of our sport.”
“University divisions under the AASCF have been growing in popularity over the last five years and we are thrilled that, with this partnership, UniSport and AASCF can develop a long term plan for the sport of cheer and dance in a tertiary setting."
"This will include providing coaches education and accreditation programs to members, running the cheer and dance divisions at the UniSport Nationals Div 1 in September, and assisting with and supporting the selection of the Australian Uniroos cheer and dance teams at the AASCF Nationals in November, to ensure our best Australian teams attend the FISU World University Cheerleading Championship.”
The benefits of the new partnership will be seen immediately at the 2018 Nationals on the Gold Coast. On 26 September 2018, AASCF will deliver a revised cheer and dance program as part of the UniSport Nationals Div 1. The competition will be run under the auspices of the International Cheer Union rules, with the competition including categories from Level 1 to Level 6. All results contributing determine the overall champion university.
